Mission
Mission is high on DBC's agenda. We believe in a God who cares for all the peoples of the world, so we want a concern for the whole world to be part of our life as His church.
At DBC we encourage our members to get involved in mission at both a local and global level. Some members are employed or serve as volunteers in local Christian work and organisations. Some have spent time with Christian organisations on projects in other countries.
We are really glad to support these friends as they show God's compassion in a wide variety of very practical ways, also taking the opportunity to share their faith with those around them. As we receive news about this work, it helps us to pray with understanding and care.
We also have particular associations with missionaries working full-time overseas and this, too, helps to make global mission more personal and real to us.
Besides going out into the world ourselves, and praying for missionaries and the people they serve, another way in which we can show God's love is by donating money, and each year we give part of the income of the church to various mission organisations and projects. Presently, we regularly give to BMS World Mission, BU Home Mission, Parish Nursing, Youth for Christ (Rugby), Latin Link, Hope4, The Well Healing Centre and Futures Unlocked. We also have special collections for other causes, such as the Samaritan's Purse shoe box appeal, and occasional disaster appeals.
Our aims as a church in mission include:
- ensuring that mission remains high on the church agenda so that as a church we will be aware of local, national, & world issues
- encouraging and challenging the congregation in mission so that each person will consider their mission activities through prayer, giving and going
- broadening our understanding of mission so that DBC could be described as a missionary congregation
- co-operating with the Rugby and Wolston Baptist Churches in mission initiatives and in planning events that stimulate interest in mission
